Pastor Namutebi Imelda Profile
Pastor
Imelda Kula Namutebi was born to late Mathew Mukasa and
late Rose Nakakawa. She grew up with her grandfather
Hajji Abubakari Maale Muwanga in a Muslim family. Her
turning point came in 1987, when she got seriously sick
after her sister’s death. Being in a Muslim home, they
organized a ‘duwa’ prayer and also took her to a witch
doctor. The witch doctor told her relatives that there
was nothing that could be done to heal her and therefore
she was bound to die.
In that state
of hopelessness, Pastor Imelda Namutebi left her village
and came to Kampala. In Kampala she met a lady called
Lydia Kyomuhendo (now a member of Liberty Worship
Church), who preached to her about salvation and she
accepted. Lydia introduced Pastor Imelda to her friend
called Deborah, who shared with her more about Jesus
Christ. She burnt all the ‘tarimas’ she had come with.
Deborah prophesied about her life that she was to going
to be used of God.
Pastor Imelda
Namutebi joined Rubaga Miracle Centre with Pastor Robert
Kayanja. While at Rubaga Miracle Centre, she prayed to
God and the Lord started lifting her into the ministry
of prophecy and praying for people. In 1988 she received
a vision from God that He had called her to be minister.
She started getting visions and prophesying. She would
hear God’s voice but being young in salvation she
feared. She sought counsel from the Pastors at Rubaga
Miracle Centre. They confirmed to her that it was God
speaking and that he was going to use her. Pastor Imelda
Namutebi attended a Bible School at Rubaga Miracle
center. The classes were conducted at night on Tuesdays
and Thursdays. The bible school targeted those young
ministers growing in the gift of evangelism. Pastor
Imelda attended the Bible School for about 4 months.
Pastor Imelda
stayed with Pastor Abraham Musoke and his wife at their
home in Nateete. However in 1990, Pastor Abraham and his
wife left for London where they are now pastoring a
church. Therefore Pastor Imelda had to look for an
alternative place for her accommodation.
In 1990,
Pastor Imelda moved to Kibuli the suburb of Kampala City
and stayed with other brethren where they also conducted
a home cell. The brethren that were in the home cell
included; Sister Lydia, Sister Sarah, Brother George,
Brother. Serunjogi and Sister. Nakato who is now a wife
to Pastor Jamada Gyagenda of Victory Church –Natete and
the others are also ministers in other churches. In the
home cell, the brethren would come for fellowship
regularly and God would use her to pray for them and
healing miracles would take place. They also conducted
outreach missions to places like Jinja, Mukono, Hoima
and Masindi.
In 1991, the
home cell was disbanded as brethren joined different
ministries. Pastor Imelda had again to move and look for
a house for accommodation. She left Kibuli and went to
Kansanga. At Kansanga, she rented a small house but time
came when she could not afford the rent. The landlord
asked her to leave the house.
As she was
figuring out the issue of rent, there was a widow called
Kibirango who was sick and paralyzed. The widow had
dreamt Pastor Imelda praying for her and also giving a
house to her. The next day she sent her children to
Pastor Imelda and asked her to come and pray for her.
She prayed for her and the widow received her healing.
She gave her a house, and Pastor Imelda shifted from the
small house with her home cell.
Pastor Imelda
with other brethren who were staying with her used to
visit a nearby church called Elshadai Ministries where
they would minister especially on Sundays. Pastor
Imelda, with other brethren, started another ministry
called the Disciples of Jesus Ministries. In Disciples
of Jesus Ministries they would pray on every Tuesday and
Thursday evening and on Saturday at the home of Mr and
Mrs. Jjemba at Kabalagala as she continued visiting
Elshadai ministry. One Sunday after preaching at
Elshadai, she met Pastor James Katoogo who is also now a
Pastor at Liberty Worship Centre. Pastor James got
interested in her ministry and went and informed Pastor
Isaac Kiwewesi and who yearned to see her preaching.
Pastor Kiwewesi started visiting Elshadai Ministries.
By then Pastor Kiwewesi was conducting a home cell in
Makindye. Pastor Imelda started collaborating with
Pastor Isaac Kiwewesi. They would visit and share at
each other’s home cell.
In 1992, Pastor Isaac Kiwewesi left Makindye to stay in
Kansanga in Mrs. Kotilda’s house. In the
same year
Pastor Isaac Kiwewesi and Pastor Imelda Namutebi started
Kansanga Miracle center and served together up to 1997.
Pastor Isaac moved in the gift of teaching, apostolic
and Evangelism, and Pastor Imelda ministered more in the
gift of prophesy, evangelism and apostolic ministry. In
January 1996, Pastor Imelda started going for
international missions in countries like Sweden,
Britain, Belgium, USA and South Africa.
In 1997,
Pastor Imelda, left Kansanga Miracle Centre and started
her own ministry called Liberty Worship Centre
International and is the Senior Pastor.
Pastor Imelda
is now married to Pastor Tom Kula, blessed with a
wonderful daughter called Misha. To God be the Glory....
Liberty Worship Centre Church Profile
Liberty
Worship Centre Church begun in 1997 when Pastor Imelda
Namutebi left Kansanga Miracle centre where she had been
ministering with Pastor Isaac Kiwewesi.
The Church
started in a humble way in Mengo at the home of Princes
Mugale. Princes Mugale is a sister to the Kabaka of
Buganda Kingdom and the mother of Pastor Grace Kitaka a
co-Pastor with Pastor Imelda Namutebi. Liberty Worship
Centre held its first service with 20 members in the
house of Princes Mugale.
The second
Sunday service was held in a tent that was erected in
the compound of the home of Princes Mugale. The number
grew from 20 to 100 members. God started moving in a
might way and the tent could not accommodate the
members. A temporary shade was constructed in the in the
compound where subsequent Sunday services were held.
God started performing many miracles notable ones were
for example that of a lady who got healed of cancer and
a girl who was born with sealed private parts but when
her mother brought her to the Church and she was prayed
for. At home in the night the child started crying, the
mother was prompted to check her only to see blood and
opened private parts as if someone had operated her.
These and many other miracles touched people and many
people with various problems started coming to the
church to be prayed for.
The Church
was given a plot of land by the Princess to construct a
church. Construction started but when it had reached
wall plate, Kampala City Council came in and stopped the
construction on the account that the place was
residential.
Between 1997
and 2003, The Church grew to about 3000 members and the
compound became too small and besides during the rainy
seasons, services could be interrupted and people would
get wet. This led to the Church to look for another
spacious place, which would also serve as a permanent
home. The land was identified and bought in Lugala.
On the 24th August 2003, the Church moved from Mengo to Lugala. The
services started in shelter made up tuplins. A plan to
construct a temporary structure was developed but could
not be approved by Kampala City Council because
technically they said the structure was too big to be
constructed as a temporary structure. The idea was
abandoned and a plan developed to construct a permanent
sanctuary with the capacity to sit 20,000 people. To
date, the structure is at the roofing stage.
In the last
two years the Church has almost doubled to about 5000
members and fellowship under a temporary shelter with
iron sheet roof and wood. The Church is looking forward
to enter its magnificent sanctuary.
